In Canada, we’re pretty lucky. We’ve been largely insulated from the global economic crisis due to stalwart measures on the part of our financial system, and we have great programs for seniors. Add to that the fact that both Old Age Security and the Guaranteed Income Supplement recently increased.
Did you know that the Government of Canada provides services for seniors and ways for seniors to inform government policy? Here are just a few of them.
New Horizons for Seniors Program
This is a grants and contributions program that supports projects led by seniors trying to make a difference in their communities. Organizations can receive up to $25,000 for community-based projects. Activities the program has funded include urban gardens, preservation of native languages in Nunavut, and sharing the gift of music with youth in Nova Scotia.
